For my final game project I have a few ideas. My first idea being a trash clean up game. I am a pretty passionate person when it comes to environmental cleanups and “Saving the turtles” so I think funneling my passion into a game around it would be an easy idea. I would base the game around cleaning up trash in different settings such as a park, the ocean, and a parking lot maybe? The player would clean up the trash by simply drag and dropping the trash into various trash cans throughout the level. Throughout the levels the player…

For this journal I played “Papers Please” for the first time. When the game came out I saw some lets plays of the game but I never played the game for myself until now. When I first saw Papers Please, I was attracted to the art style and the gritty story behind the game and those values translated into its gameplay. The mechanics of the game were fairly simple but the fact that you are incentivized to go as fast as possible adds a pleasant challenge to the game. …

For this weeks journal I choose to review “Bioharmonious” on the Games for Change website. The game is about 2 planets, one that is full of nature and life and the other manufactured and full of pollution, and your job is to balance the planets by bringing animals and plants from the nature planet over to the polluted planet. Bioharmonious teaches the player about human’s impact on the environment and paints a potential future for our planet if we don't respond to the damages we are doing. As I played, I was able to directly see the effects of my…

The political game that I decided to review for this journal is Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley is a peaceful Farming sim that takes place in a remote town in Stardew Valley. You inherit the farm in the game from your grandfather and your goal is to rebuild what he left for you. As you get more and more acquainted with the town, you find that a supermarket company is trying to take over the town and they want to get rid of the traditional ways of the town to replace them with more corporate and modern ways. …

For this weeks journal I will be exploring that wacky world of Dark Souls 2’s character creation glitches. Dark Souls 2 is my favorite Souls game in the series mostly due to the amount of freedom it gives to the player to do things. Some argue that this makes the game more easy but I think it makes the game more fun but I rest. I wanted to explore the face customization options for this glitch journal because Dark Souls 2 allows the player to heavily customize the face options to the point where when the player puts helmets on…

I will begin this journal by defining the term ‘Glitch’ from what I have experienced throughout my gamin history. A glitch to me is a feature that is part of the game that breaches the normality that has been set, either intentionally or unintentionally. I chose this definition because whenever I have found a glitch within a video game, it usually takes me out of whatever emersion I am in or it makes me stop and wonder why they allowed that to stay within the game.

For the glitch I want to review today I chose a glitch from Borderlands…

I would like to start off this journal by saying that I did not quite understand what exactly I was supposed to review for this journal but I am going to try my best to do what I think I need to do. My confusion comes from the fact that I cant find anything that resembles a mod on the site that was provided, only stories or projects on multiple video games at a time in a more narrative structure. Although confused, I'm going to follow through with this journal.

On https://www.gamescenes.org/ , I went through various articles? projects? interviews…

The mod that I chose to play for this weeks journal was Sky Factory 3 for Minecraft. Sky Factory 3 is a mod pack consisting of 195 different individual mods but I decided to use it for this journal because I enjoy playing it from time to time. The mod starts you on a single tree in the middle of the void and your quest is to complete a book of challenges over time as you expand your platform/base. …

For this weeks journal I decided to play Spellbreak. Spellbreak is a new battle royale game that was recommended to me recently and I decided to give it a try for this assignment. The game was made by Epic games and runs on the Unreal 4 game engine which most of their games run off of. I have played many games that use this game engine so I had an idea of what to expect when entering the game (I also know that most battle royale games are the same so I went into the game with underwhelming expectations). When…

For this first gameplay journal I have chosen to play Hearthstone, a game that I play almost on a daily basis. Hearthstone is an online collectible card game that I have been playing fairly regularly for almost 7 years now. I have witnessed Hearthstone grow and evolve through the years and feel a deep attachment for the game and the community around it. When I sat down today to do this assignment and started playing hearthstone, It almost felt surreal to be analyzing this game that I’ve been playing since I was a kid in the mindset of a game…
